The Immaculate Presumption of Myrtle Creek

Caleb Crenshaw came home to Myrtle Creek with a ruined reputation, a failed marriage, and laboratory proof that fatherhood was probably never going to happen for him.

His grandmother has other information.

According to Gram Ivy, a child is coming to Myrtle Creek before the lead float in the Christmas parade makes the turn onto Main Street.

She has billboards.

And a committee.

Caleb has questions.

Unfortunately, he also has a pregnant ex-wife who won’t quite go away, a secretary who can allegedly read minds, a suspiciously handsome Catholic priest for a neighbor, a little girl who haunts the cemetery on purpose, and a seven-year-old boy who keeps appearing wherever Caleb happens to be.

Not to mention, everyone he meets is pregnant.

And his dog hates him.

Caleb would like to restore some dignity to his life, his ministry, and possibly the Baptist church.

Myrtle Creek has other plans.

Because in a town where everybody knows everything—and almost everybody is wrong—facts have a way of becoming rumors, rumors become theology, and theology occasionally ends up on a billboard.

As Caleb tries to separate truth from certainty, forgiveness from foolishness, and miracles from very bad ideas, he begins to discover that faith may have less to do with being right than he ever imagined.
