Well Armed

This is the epic story of the family who lived through the triumphs and tragedies of an amazing young woman and a world-class racehorse who shared much more than a day on the calendar. Karri Casner was the oldest daughter of Bill and Susan Casner, a salt of the earth couple who journeyed from the rough and tumble end of the Thoroughbred racing business to the most glorious heights of the Sport of Kings. Karri was a budding educator, environmental activist, and fearless traveller whose life was cut short in a terrorist attack that shook the civilized world.

Not long after that awful event, a Thoroughbred was born on the Casner's farm in Kentucky--on the very day Karri Casner would have celebrated another birthday. The foal grew into an imposing young racehorse whose promising career was interrupted by a near fatal injury. But Bill Casner refused to let the story end there. The horse, named Well Armed, meant too much to the family, carrying as he did Karri's birthdate on his broad shoulders. Casner nursed him back to health until, miraculously, Well Armed was able to race again. That alone was enough to satisfy the Casners. But simply winning a race or two was not what Well Armed had in store.

Under the guidance of his Irish trainer, Eoin Harty, Well Armed took his people to the top of the racing world by winning the Dubai World Cup, the richest Thoroughbred race, by a record margin under the lights of a desert night in the United Arab Emirates.

Well Armed: A Thoroughbred of Destiny follows the story of the horse and the people in his orbit from their roots through the most significant moments in their lives. The loss of Karri Casner always hung heavily over the family, but Well Armed--born on the same date as their daughter--gave the Casners a reason to believe that sometimes even the darkest of fates has a way of finding a spark of light.
